Statement of support for medical and PA (feldsher, as they are known locally) students in Ukraine
The Oregon Medical Education Foundation has deep concerns about the current Russian-initiated conflict in Ukraine, and our thoughts are with the tens of thousands of students from around the world whose dreams of a medical education have been so violently interrupted. We hope for a speedy end to hostilities, safe passage for those wishing to escape a dangerous situation, and that who those remain to assist during this time of war may draw strength from the support of the global medical community.
The pandemic has hit healthcare the hardest, so we are ramping up to do more good.
Our mission: To do our part for a stronger and healthier Oregon by supporting and encouraging MD, DO and PA students along their personal continuums of medical education. We also strive to be good partners to prospective students facing barriers to entering the medical profession and to the wider community through support of public health and wellness education partnerships. We accomplish this through:
Future of Medicine Scholarships, which provide urgently needed financial support for students pursuing their post undergraduate education in Oregon.
Community Grants, where we partner with local organizers to bring about transformative community change through health education.
The OMEF was created by the Oregon Medical Association (OMA) in 1961 and in the last decade alone, we have awarded over $550,000 in Future of Medicine Scholarships and helped hundreds of students overcome barriers to learning.
We are facing a severe physician and physician assistant shortage, making our work more important than ever. Please join us in giving future practitioners the support they need and deserve.
