About the Conference Assistance Fund

The Oregon Medical Education Foundation understands how valuable the experience of presenting at or attending a major conference is to a student’s overall educational and leadership experience.  We are excited to encourage and support Oregon's future healthcare leaders as the world opens up again.

Eligibility

All current MD, DO & PA students in Oregon in good academic standing are welcome to apply.

Preference may be given to students who are:

  • Accepted to present at an upcoming conference or meeting
  • Attending a leadership capacity
  • From underrepresented-in-medicine backgrounds
  • Unable to attend without financial assistance
  • Have not received an OMEF scholarship or grant in the past

Also, students who demonstrate a desire to practice in Oregon, and who have a passion for helping rural, underserved or underrepresented-in-medicine communities here will be given additional consideration.

Student membership in the Oregon Medical Association is also required, and is free - www.theoma.org/join.

Application Requirements

1. Online application - use the "Apply" button on the right.

A complete application will include:

  • A one-page personal statement describing why you chose this opportunity, in what capacity you will participate (Presenter, Attendee etc), your leadership goals/outcomes that this will support, and the impact it will have on your leadership development.  Please also provide a high-level travel budget and list of other financial support received/applied for.

  • A letter of support from your institution’s Program Director approving time away to attend & confirming academic good standing.

2. Within 30 days of travel, students will need to submit a written summary of their experience to OMEF, along with their receipts for reimbursement.

Award amounts

If accepted, this is a one-time award of up to $500 towards eligible expenses, such as registration fees, transportation to/from host city, and hotel.  Students may apply once per academic year.

Applications accepted year-round

Students are encouraged to apply early, ideally not less than six weeks from the conference start date.  Decisions are made on a rolling basis, until funding runs out.
